Training & Development

In Canada, Trican’s in-house training programs include: Operations Training, Technical Training, and Leadership and Management Development. These programs are supported by internal training systems and all regulatory-required training, and complemented by external educational scholarship in Petroleum Technology and Engineering.

Trican’s training facility in Red Deer, Alberta, contains 5,000 square feet (470 square meters) of training space, and accommodates up to 90 people per day. The facility also includes 12,000 square feet (1,115 square meters) of office space.

Another facility housed in our Red Deer base is a CTS 5000 coiled tubing simulator accompanied by fluid pump, remote choke and nitrogen pump simulators.

Each base and/or district has yard-based training, a mentorship program, in-house or offsite training spaces, and computer-based learning technology.

FAQ

  1. Do you hire summer students?
    Yes. The Summer Student Program at Trican is determined annually, and will run from May to August. It provides students the opportunity to gain work experience within our organization.

    • Positions are posted between February and May at www.TricanWellService.com
    • Candidates are selected for interview among the applicants based on geographic location, skills, previous work experience and educational background
    • Students who are currently enrolled in full time studies at a secondary or post-secondary institution are eligible to apply
  2. Does Trican hire Apprentices?
    Yes, we hire 1-4 year apprentice mechanics and instrumentation journeymen.

  3. Do I need to have my class 1 licence to become a driver/operator?
    You are not required to have your Class 1 licence to become a driver/operator.  It is an asset when you apply for the role.

  4. I would like to work in Canada; what is required?
    An individual with Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or the holder of an Open Work Permit is eligible to work in Canada.

  5. Do you have fly in, fly out services at Trican?
    We do not have a fly in, fly out service at Trican

  6. What is required to work in the field (in Canada) with Trican?
    To work in the field, we require the following:

    • A completed job application form (online or print application)
    • Class 1 and 3 licences are considered assets at Trican and we will consider training suitable candidates
    • Valid H2S, WHIMIS and TDG certificates, if available (training can be provided upon hire)
  7. What kind of schedule does a field employee work?
    Field employees work 15 days on followed by six days off. This means that for a 15-day period, you are on call 24 hours-a-day, and you must be available to go on jobs as required. Then, for six consecutive days, you have time off.

  8. What does Trican look for in an employee?
    Trican’s policy is to fill job openings with the best-qualified individuals available, first from within, and then from outside the Company. If you are a pro-active, self-motivated individual who is career-oriented, then we are looking for you.
